Pitch and Putt is always short Par 3’s so it’s all based on 3
All players start with a WippIndex based on: the average of their last three rounds, minus 54; or one-third of their official golf handicap; or their first WIPP Round score minus 54. They will inform the local WippRep of their choice.
Average score minus 54
( e.g. 62 +71 + 59 = 192/3 = 64; 64 – 54 = a WI of 10 )
Thereafter, the WI evolves on the WippIndex system:
– Comfort zone of 3; a score up to 3 shots over WI – no change
( e.g. a WI 10 scores 66 – no change )
– Any score below the WI, subtract 0.3 per shot under net par
( e.g. a WI 10 plays 62; 2 shots under net par = – 0.6 = new WI of 9 ( 9.4 rounded down)
– Any score of 4 shots or more above the WI, + 0.3
( the system works with one decimal point after the WI, which is then rounded up or down for play the following month; 0.5 is rounded up )
Maximum WI = 18
N.B. The WippIndex may seem a bit complicated to explain but in practice, it is relatively simple. It is certainly much simpler than any known golf handicap system! And remember, this is not an official handicap!!
