FAQ
Why 3 phases for WIPP?
WIPP is an experiment and we will progress in the light of general interest and player participation. We hope that by September everything will be in place and strategy will be reviewed at our event in Glasgow.
Some courses are much easier than others, so their players are at an unfair advantage.
True, but for the moment we just have to accept this. Over time and by comparing results, we may be able to invent some form of “slope score” but for now we’ll just have to admit that in love, war and P&P, all is fair!
Can professional golfers compete?
This is P&P, not golf, so why not. No money prizes are involved, and we would be more than honored to have some professionals in our competitions. They may find it discouraging to be beaten regularly by mere amateurs but that would be their problem.
How many players will compete?
Will WIPP always be free?
Why have a WippIndex?
We see P&P as a great sport in its own right but many players who start with P&P go on to play golf. As IPPA is recognized and supported by the R&A of St Andrews, we insist on applying their rules and we encourage our members to train newcomers using golf standards for rules and etiquette. For the moment, WIPP uses only “gross” scores but clubs or national associations may wish to use “net” scores to encourage beginners and we think it is useful for all players to be familiar with handicapping. The WippIndex should only be used for WIPP Rounds and should never be confused with a golf handicap.
What if a club cheats?
If it’s flagrant and deliberate, club members and other clubs will soon call them out. In any case, as there is no money involved, there is little point. We will close their account.
Will WIPP change?
Probably; we encourage players with constructive proposals to pass them on. All interesting proposals will be debated and implemented after a majority vote in favour. This is your event, so you decide. By the players, for the players!
Who runs WIPP?
WIPP was set up by players in France, but as it evolves, WippReps will take responsibility for its evolution. By the players, for the players.
Why have categories?
P&P is open to all, without distinction of age or gender, but it will be interesting to see which groups are most interested in the sport. If you don’t want to answer, simply tick: NA
Why is "3" important in P&P?
- Pitch and Putt is a form of Par 3 golf
- P&P is played with 3 clubs
- We prefer to play in flights of 3
- WippIndex is based on 3:
- the “comfort zone” is 3
- scores > par = Index + 0.3
- each stroke < par = Index – 0.3
How can a club qualify for the event in Scotland?
By simply applying. Expenses will need to be met by the club, and/or the players themselves and/or a sponsor. In June, WIPP will recommend clubs to the joint organizers, IPPA and Golf It!. The prime criterion will be to have as many countries as possible represented.
